Rainsford were the designers for the project and put considerable thought and effort into creating a space that is light and airy, elegant and stylish, yet also homely and relaxing. Rupert took the time to listen to our design ideas and was careful to take our thoughts into consideration. We are delighted with the result. The understated use of stonework to create internal feature walls cleverly reflects the building materials used on the outside with an outstanding attention to detail visible in the use of shadow gaps and discreet up-lighting. The LED-lit coffered ceilings are another agreeable feature that brings balance across the kitchen, dining and sitting area. Our design work went through a number of iterations with changes to requirements and budgetary restraints - Rupert and his team were patient and accommodating throughout, putting in the time required to provide detailed drawings and graphics and coming up with many good ideas and suggestions that helped improve the design and reduce costs. The build part took rather longer than expected, primarily because the Victorian property we were renovating threw up several surprises and glitches, but also because Rainsford insisted on getting things right and on maintaining a high quality – so no shortcuts were taken.
